Canada/America
Someone at work today (in Canada) asked me if I was American because I spelled “colour” as “color.” I also regularly refer to temperature in Farenheit instead of Celsius now. I much prefer miles to kilometres, and I even prefer the American spelling of kilometers. Will I become more “American” the longer I live here in the US? If so, I have no idea what to expect.
I have always wanted to write a post about the adverse reactions I received when I announced that I was moving to the United States, as well as the adverse reactions I continue to receive from many Canadians who find out that I actually live in the US, but it is hard to write about it without offending either group. I feel like I’m being offensive even writing that - it is just so hard to explain. People on both sides of the border take extreme pride in their nationality, and it can be a touchy topic. Again, hard to explain.
Maybe one day I’ll figure out how to write down my thoughts on this issue.
